Signature Events

Between 2017 and 2025 the Council organized or co-organized ten signature events. Each is summarized below in English; the complete original reports, with their media attributions, are available on the Chinese edition of this page (https://cccm.info/activities.html).

1. The First International Conference on Health-Care with Chinese Medicine (Vancouver, Canada)

Held December 27, 2017 to January 3, 2018, this week-long conference was the overseas launch project of the "Worldwide Journey of Chinese Medicine." Co-hosted with Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, relevant special committees of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, and BC TCM Community, it drew more than one hundred well-known TCM physicians, acupuncture experts, and health scholars from China and Canada, and over a thousand members of the Chinese community and local Canadians to its ancillary programs. Highlights included the First International TCM and Acupuncture Academic Forum; a large community free clinic with more than twenty stations staffed by dozens of registered practitioners serving hundreds of Vancouver residents; and a wellness-themed cultural gala and public science lectures that brought Chinese wellness knowledge to the general public.

2. The 2018 TCM International Forum (Hefei, Anhui)

On May 11, 2018, the 10th World Wellness Congress and the 4th Anhui International Elderly-Care Industry Expo opened at the Anhui International Convention and Exhibition Center, with nearly ten thousand delegates attending, including government officials, TCM industry leaders, university experts, and famous physicians from home and abroad. The opening ceremony and keynote forum were presided over by Prof. Zheng Zhijian of Beijing Hospital, ten-time secretary-general of the World Wellness Congress. Distinguished TCM masters Xu Jingshi and Li Yefu attended despite their advanced years, alongside diplomatic guests from South Sudan, the Gambia, Spain, and South Korea. The Council's delegation participated in the congress as part of its ongoing China-Canada exchange work.

3. The 2018 TCM Health-and-Wellness Forum (Youyu, Shanxi)

On September 8-9, 2018, the Health-and-Wellness Summit of the 10th World Wellness Congress was held in Youyu County, Shanxi, under the theme "Practicing the 'Two Mountains' Theory, Building Youyu into a Wellness Destination." Hosted by the China Medical Health Development Foundation and the Shuozhou Municipal Government, the summit featured themed forums, precision medical-poverty-alleviation programs, an international TCM wellness forum, green-agriculture project matchmaking, and a large free clinic. The ambassadors of Burundi and Niger to China attended the opening ceremony, as did a Council delegation including Cao Baoqi, registrar of British Columbia's College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists.

4. The First Overseas Chinese Medicine Forum (Changsha, Hunan)

On August 23, 2019, alongside the 2nd World Chinese Medicine Service Trade Conference and the 2019 China (Hunan) TCM and Health Industry Expo in Changsha, more than one hundred overseas TCM practitioners from a dozen-plus countries gathered for a two-day forum. Organized by the China Medical Materials Association with the Council as co-organizer, the program included expert meet-and-greets, televised expert interviews, and classical-formula acupuncture lectures. Council co-chairmen Xu Weimin and Li Lei served as honorary chairmen of the forum.

5. The 2020 Second Overseas Chinese Medicine Forum (Vancouver, Canada · Online)

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the second forum was moved online, renamed the "Second National Masters Forum," and held as a series of ZOOM sessions on September 12, October 10, November 7, and December 30, 2020. At the first session, chaired by Council Executive Chairman Zhang Hui, eight experts from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, mainland China, and Taiwan delivered academic lectures to dozens of practitioners and wellness enthusiasts worldwide. In late December the "Overseas Masters of Chinese Medicine" selections for 2020 were announced in connection with the Global Chinese Medicine Brand Development Forum.

6. The 2021 National Masters Forum (Changsha, Hunan · Online)

From June 6 to 11, 2021, six cloud sessions of the Third National Masters Forum were held via ZOOM, livestreamed on YouTube, Tencent, and Sohu to several hundred practitioners, acupuncturists, and enthusiasts worldwide. The organizing committee was led by Council Director-General Zhang Hui as executive chairman, with rotating chairman Dr. Zheng Jianhua (lifetime president of the Australian TCM Association) and executive co-chairmen Dr. Huang Guojian (president of the Canadian Alliance of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture) and Dr. Fu Xueli. Honorary chairmen included such noted experts as Chen Yemeng, Tian Haihe, Wu Binjiang, Yang Jie, and Yu Weidong.

7. The Fourth Overseas Chinese Medicine Forum: Special Session with Prof. Jin Guanyuan (2023 · Online)

On November 26, 2023, the Council hosted a special cloud session featuring Prof. Jin Guanyuan, moderated by acupuncturist Yan Huaishi. Prof. Jin--a Wisconsin-licensed acupuncturist, one of the earliest eighteen NCCAOM "Grandfather" acupuncturists and herbologists in the United States, professor at the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine, honorary visiting professor at the New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and an NIH research-grant reviewer--delivered the lecture "Modern Medicine Embracing Classical Acupuncture," covering the scientific basis of treating internal diseases externally, the nature of acupoints as the interaction between homeostasis and the external environment, the meridian essence of "where disease arises and what governs its treatment," and the reflex process by which "four ounces move a thousand pounds." Commentary was offered by Gong Changzhen, Xu Chaoji, and Lin Minghui.

8. The First Overseas Masters and Notables of Chinese Medicine Forum (Vancouver, Canada)

From June 11 to 17, 2024, the First Overseas Masters and Notables of Chinese Medicine Forum was held in Vancouver, together with the premiere of "Herbals Without Borders" (Bencao Wujiang), the first season of the documentary series "A Century of Overseas Chinese Medicine," exclusively sponsored by KF Times Group. Over the seven days, more than twenty honorees of the inaugural Overseas Masters and Notables selections shared wellness knowledge with Vancouver's community, exchanged clinical experience on difficult cases, explored the herbal resources of British Columbia's Vancouver Island, and joined a scalp-acupuncture wellness journey to Banff National Park. The award ceremony was held at the century-old Rio Theatre in Vancouver.

9. The Second International Conference on Health-Care with Chinese Medicine and the 2024 World Scalp Acupuncture Congress (Hainan)

On November 23, 2024, the congress opened at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Haikou, gathering TCM authorities from around the world for an academic celebration of wellness and scalp-acupuncture medicine. Keynote presentations included Jiao Shunfa's "Fifty Years of Jiao-Style Scalp Acupuncture: A Retrospective," Jiao Liming's "New Breakthroughs in the Clinical Application of Jiao-Style Scalp Acupuncture," Zhou Libo's "Treating Multiple Diseases of Multiple Causes in Clinical Practice," and Ding Yuqiu's "Opening a New Era of Modern Biological Chinese Herbal Decoction Pieces." The congress was co-hosted by the Council with the Jiao Shunfa Scalp Acupuncture Research Center, Chinese Weekly (Shijie Huaren Zhoukan), and partner organizations.

10. The Second National Masters Symposium (Hainan)

On April 19, 2025, the symposium opened in Haikou, reported by China News Service (Hainan). Experts from China and abroad held in-depth discussions on the inheritance, innovation, and modernization of Chinese medicine, including integrated Chinese-Western treatment of diabetes, the anti-cancer mechanisms of Chinese medicine, and the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Li Gengjun, director of the Hainan International Cultural Exchange Center, addressed the opening ceremony; Council overseas director Zhang Hui reported on progress in overseas TCM development and outlined plans for a nationwide lecture tour by TCM masters the following year.
